Match Report Friday 19 September 2008

Another champions league game at Tampines Safra and things didn't look good at the start of the game with ks and jq down with flu and JLO, Reubs and Seng playing on a full stomach.

We didn't start well and the opponents controlled the game. Wenwei, our new goalkeeper import from 'Germany' made several good saves at the start keeping the team in the game. Thus it was with absolute excitement that we scored our 1st goal courtesy of Leslie in the 15th minute. Coming against the run of play, the team had won a corner, which Jialiang had delivered beautifully to the far post, which Leslie tapped in with the slightest of touches! 1-0 Unido.

The lead was not to last. With the opponents making several through passes, and with ks and reubs having to make last ditch sliding tackles, it was inevitable that 1 got through. Turning ks and leaving him in his wake, the opponent striker rushed through and tapped the ball under Wenwei. 1-1.

Yet the team rebounded swiftly with 2 quick goals from JLO. Pushing the ball, and using his pace to his advantage, JLO put the game beyond doubt in the 1st half with 2 quick goals, leaving the opponents bemused with our version of 'Usain Bolt'. Yet JLO was rewarded too, with a yellow card for a minor fracas with the opponent midfielder, who had kicked him.

3-1 the score at half time.

With such a comfortable lead, the team sat back to defend it with a more defensive formation in the second half, sitting deep and absorbing attacks. Wenwei made several good saves again, and the opponents were left frustrated, especially their star midfielder, no. 2, who was well-shackled by both JQ and Seng. The midfielders and the defenders worked well to contain the threat, and we counter attacked on several occasions. it was with shock that the team saw JLO make good progress down the wing with his pace, putting in the cross, and seeing Shian miss the shot from 1m out and the keeper well beaten =P. Other than that, JLO had the other chance of the game but fluffed his chances of a hat trick by shotting wide.

Nevertheless, the whole team played well. Great teamwork. It would be a tough call for MOM between WW and JLO, but i think my call would have to go to WW who kept us in the game with several outstanding saves =).

Paper Trail...

Hi all,

Didn't know that my first post here would be on something unrelated to football but as the situation calls for it, here i am...

According to my investigation based on the ip addresses and links of this mystery tag-board poster, I'm 80% confirmed that its a member of Skopets. Also, based on the history on their tag-board,  its obvious that someone was impersonating "Kelvin" & "JQF", trying to incite tension and disharmony between Skopets and us.

Hopefully, someone from Skopets would read this post and realise that someone else was the real culprit behind all this nonsense, taking Skopets and us on a ride.

And since the access to the tag-board has been restricted, we should just leave it as it is and not go creating trouble on Skopets tag-board. For doing so would only result in delighting the troublemaker who impersonated Kelvin and Jq in the first place.

Regards

Its all a misunderstanding

Hey all,

After all dat hoo-ha ytd, I went to check whether our "friend" was indeed from skopet. Guess wat?

Apparently, someone impersonated "kelvin" and "JQ" on their tag board and left several messages there. So I wun be surprised if they came back and took revenge.

I highly doubt that kelvin and JQ will be so bo liao to leave messages on their tag board so just to disturb them.

Go and read the older posts of the tag board of skopet. They also kena the same thing.

Positives

In view of the recent uproar, I have decided to shift the focus towards something more healthy, something constructive and tangible that we can look at. I know I have just joined the team but I would like to give my two cents' worth. So here's my observations based on the few matches that I have played in.

Let's start with the positives so as to lighten things up a bit.

Goalkeepers: We have a few good keepers. Especially Jackson as I am told, though I have yet the fortune to see him play. The other keepers have proved more than able.

Defenders: KS and Ben works well together and marshalls the defence well. Hong Loon is a very hardworking fullback. Seeing him play with Jia Liang on the same flank I can see them working together nicely. Weirong Is another powerhouse with his stamina and running.

Midfielders: I really think Sherman is a good holding midfielder. With him in that position I can always see him in action. Chun Seng and Junqiang have good chemistry. Junqiand in particular is I think the most hardworking player on the pitch. Jia Liang's pace on the wings means he often outrun defenders and is putting in the crosses.

Strikers: Leslie is often played as the lone striker which I think is a difficult job for him. Still he is putting in the runs and pressuring the defence. I heard he just scored 2 so he's doing his job.

The rest of the players are of course contributing too. I haven't seen enough of our matches to comment on everything. The ones that I mentioned are the more regular players in the fixed positions.

Not a friend at all

(two posts in two days, i'm on a roll man!)

I can't help but interfere in this again.

KS: Your arguments are solid and after knowing you for some time, I understand that you're pretty much a straight shooter who will tell someone what you think about him to his face.

To the one who calls himself "friend": Do you think that by posting such an outburst on the chatbox and attempting to hide behind an anonymous shield you're doing yourself and everyone else a favour? Please. To me, it is a pathetic attempt at trying to change things by shoving the blame to others. I urge you to self-reflect and think about what you're doing. Unfortunately, it is despicable, underhanded and totally NOT REQUIRED. For the record, we are no professionals. We are just some Sunday warriors (or ah nuas, whatever you wanna call it). Why get all hot and bothered about "winning tactics" and "starting lineups" and playing time and whatnot? What's most important is you play the game, and you have contributed to the game.

Since you have the cheek to come out and start raining criticism all over the place, why not also grow some balls and use your real identity? If you really care as a friend, you should tell JQ his flaws to HIS FACE and not hide behind some random online identity.

This team has been getting along fine so far, why the sudden storm-in-a-teacup?

Is this really needed?

A few quick words -

Everyone in particular, cut JQ some slack. It's a thankless task he's been doing week-in, week-out. We should consider contributing some more cash each to make up any shortfalls and to purchase drinks. Or maybe we could take turns to buy drinks. We should be grateful that he's taking the effort and contributing the cash.

JQ: Appreciate your contributions, apologies that I'm a passive member but unfortunately sometimes all of us have different priorities.

And most importantly, detractors, put your actions where your mouth is. Don't blow a shitload of hot air and when push comes to shove, back down quietly and act like nothing happened.

For the record, thanks to whoever proclaimed that I'm gay. I'm not interested in engaging in any sort of debate over such childish trivialities.

Relinquish of the post of "Captain"

Gentlemen,

From the next match on, KS will be in charge of the Tactics, Subs and all coaching matters for our future matches.

This is an arrangement made to appease the increasing unhappiness voices among the team.

I wish to clarify that this is not some spiteful knee jerk reaction nor is it an act of protest from me. I do not wish to rock the boat but I do feel the need to address some issues.

I love to play football. Win or Lose, I find meaning in it which I can relate to life. To some of you I might take it too seriously, to some of you I might be some butt of your jokes.
I will be the 1st to admit that my knowledge of football is limited especially in the tactics department. I don't think many of us would possess greater knowledge than what we learnt from our own experiences, watching Football on Tv, Winning 11 or even FM.
Tactics may be important but more importantly, its the players who play the game. Skills, Fitness, Techniques are just some of the most critical aspects of the game. However the most important aspect of all - teamwork. Football is a game for 22 men. 11 aside. One of the things of the game that thrills me the most is the way we can coordinate movements, passes and attack or defend as a unit. It is how the team work together as one.

I always hope to be the one to gel our team together, being the voice, the heartbeat to drive the team with passion. However, it has become obvious that I am not suitable for this role. To be a leader , I admit that Passion alone is not enough. In terms or fitness, Ball Sense, skills and techniques, I feel I am more than capable than many of you. However I will admit with shame that my shooting ability is less than desired and the tendency to run from box to box leave the defence empty at times. But many times I ran to cover for defence and support the attack and its a job I feel I did well without any fair recognition. I don't expect recognition for it because it is something I do for the team to win, but I don't expect to be made the scapegot for many times. If everyone can cover for themselves, would I be required to make those run? Nevertheless, I have come up with a 4 5 1 tactic to solve this problem. Though we gain dominance in the midfield, something which I enjoy very much together with ChunShen, Reuben and Sherman, I must admit it did make us a but less dangerous in attack. Basically, I think Chunshen and myself would be tired everytime we have to cover for the defence and run up to support the attack while having to control the game in the center. I feel it affects my scoring quite abit because I can't compose myself in time.. which is something that I have been trying to work on. However, this is a job of a centre midfielder, something which I love to do, because of its responsibilities. I love playing, so I don't mind playing anywhere, in fact I played in all position from GK to Striker before. I enjoy playing winger because I get to dribble and beat the man but I love my midfield role because I can dictate the play.

I play the game because I love the game. But I feel upset in recent times with some of your attitudes towards me. I give without asking for returns but please spare a thought for some of the difficulties I faced.

Something I wish to highlight so that we can make the job easier for KS:

1. Arriving on time as much as possible - for warm up and tactics
2. Replying the call asap - to facilitate the planning of squad
3. Passing up the game money asap - to help speed up the paying process
4. Not complaining on the type of drinks or lack of drinks - Drinks are bought by me and my personal contributions, there is no team fund contrary to popular beliefs, in fact I pay more many times to cover for short for. As far As i m concern, I try to buy 3 to 4 cold isotonic drinks for 14 to 16 of us.
5. Understanding that the team is made up of friends, its difficult to leave out anyone or for that matter difficult to let everyone play a full 90 or more time without having to consider the tactics, the nature of game, the previous turn out, the fitness of the players. It is most difficult for me when I have to decide which of my friends I have to choose to leave out and which of my friends I have to bench and sub.

I urge you all to be honest and ask yourselves the motives of playing for this team.

I play football because I love it. I started this team because I believe I have a group of friends who love to play as well.

But now, I feel torn because I don't believe some of you are even interested to kick about and only care about playing for matches. I agree that matches are more engaging but if you truly love to play, shouldn't playing kick abts with your friends be fun as well?
Worst of all I don't even feel I am even a friend to some of us anymore. Is this right for me? to be the no. 1 enemy for a job which I am trying to perfect as much as I can.

Sorry if I rocked the boat.
Even more sorry if I have to disappoint you, I will not quit the team, I will continue to play for as long as I can.
But I wish all of you can find the joy of the game and the sadness that comes with it. This is real sport, this is real football. I did and I will continue to.

I never recognised Unido Football Club as JQF. Its not just my team. Its also your team.

2nd leg Champion League match - Green Team

Hi Team,

As confirmed from opponent (Green Team). They have managed to book a night game on 29th September 2008, 9pm at Tampines Safra.

It will seems like a 2nd Leg Champion league game. haha. Please reserve that date and time. Thanks.

JQ & KS, Please help to confirm the attendance. ; p Thanks.

Prior to the game against Roma Jersey team instead of Black team. My views:

We played well as we controlled the game. Unfortunately, we lost the game but I must say it was a good game althought the referee quite cock up. I really dislike that peanut head. Always hesitating to blow whistle. haha.

The last 15 mins, we can see our opponent having 10 man at the back and we constantly giving pressure on them. I reckon that most of us would say the game was there for the taking but overall it was indeed a good effort - Not forgetting it was a huge field (EPL standard size). haha.

Cheers,
Benjamin
